SBL Nature Trail - Big Tadpole

The very end of the SBL Trail.
Fuzzy Newt.
Big Tadpole.

Big Tadpole. That would be a good name for a band.

you're gonna bake it? it looks like its the size of a quarter. need to plant your potatoes in april. i'd boil it, salt, pepper and butter, eat.

these were really big tadpoles too. maybe bullfrogs? they were hanging onto the dock pilings.

the tater is the size of a grape. not even a cherry. i think it will be a hoot to bake it. gotta see if there is more.

the farmer said...

you could make it into an earring.

We had a bunch of garden pond liner variety tadpoles earlier, but if they had a pair (amongst dozens) survive the re-introduction of last Winter's sheltered indoorsy frogs, I'd be surprised.

They're WAY too big to be buying crickets for this year. If we put them back in the 10 gallon tank with an appropriately long section of wood dowel stock, it'd look like Happy Hour at a Very Small bar.

What's a guy gotta do to get a cricket around here, anyways?

Not looking forward to Winter. You can bet if we go a month with as little snow as we've had rainfall lately, it's gonna be colder than Dick Cheney's mechanical Zombie heart.

well, i don't know if we can count on less snow.

First snow for me last year was oct 16. looks like tomorrow night might be the first this year. haven't even had a bad frost or freeze yet. i guess i'll have to pick all my peppers tomorrow. picked a lot today and pickled them during the SF/Philly game. which is one of my favorite things to do this time of year... watch the playoffs and series and pickle peppers and can stuff. i wonder if pickled tadpoles are any good. I bet Christine O'Donnell would know.

if you can't find all your taters they might come up again next year as long as they are buried deep enough to not freeze.

The long term weather forecast i was looking at says a warmer and wetter than usual fall extending through Dec and into Jan. Which could mean a lot of wet snow for the NE (with noreasters rolling up the coast). Not sure about the midwest though. El Nino is on the out and La Nina returns, Which could also mean more hurricanes making landfall next year. Longterm says a colder than usual Feb and a late 2011 Spring. Ice storms.

last year it didn't get horrid cold. didn't get over 100 here this summer. i guess i will let whatever taters are left in the ground. i couldn't find anything. next year i am moving them to a hillable spot. but gotta eat my too pullet taters for dinner. they better be good.

El Nino & La Nina are here to stay.

Tell that to the global warming/climate change conspiracy theory crowd. Not too long from now EVERYONE in this Neck 'O the Woods is going to hear someone say "below Zero for a high temp, all of next week? Boy, we really need to do sumthin' about that global warming!"

But if you're either a total shithead, you latch on to phrases like Global Warming, Government Takeover, ObamaCare, Tax & Spend, Cut & Run, Elitist Liberal Agenda, etc.

You know the catchwords. You know the people that use them. But at a personal interaction level, I'd have to let my fictitious millionare close friend slide on wanting his $100K/yr temporary tax cut stay in effect for as long as he/she could stretch it out.

But can the bullshit on "make 'em permanent!" cries and "repeal (anything)", when they'd need a veto-proof majority to do so.

Divide and Keep the Status Quo. I get it, coming from rich folks.

But to hear someone at the same level of the working class food chain/money machine Drone for them that be a notch up- now that confuses me. And pisses me off.

The "Obama Plan" is to continue said tax cuts for EVERYONE up to the first 200K single/ $250K married income earned. Anyone above that fall into the 2% crowd.

Ergo-

they still get the same tax break I do, only 4X greater. Are they bitching because a mere 50 or 100 large more would remove that sort of equality from thems that be successfull, equals Socialism?

So very tired of the bullshit. Alec Guiness' estate should be approached by the DNC or Move On for a voiceover from the FIRST (don't give me no "you mean Episode 4") Star Wars, how you can influence the weak-minded working class folks with a wave of the hand (in this case, a flag or cross will do).

But I suppose Lucas owns all that.

So- Pony Up, George! Top the political ad in Kalifornyyah that has the self-funded business genius repeating Ah-Nuld damn near verbatim.

Long Lastly- if you like a little action and a little comedy and some surrealistic use of ordinance in a movie, go see "RED".

farmer- it's not all about Helen Mirren being in it. Seriously.

If you've seen "Falling Down" and felt empathy for the lead character, this is a light-hearted escapist romp. Reserved (bigger & better & further apart) seating costs maybe $4 more per ticket online, and they give you a $5 voucher for soda, popcorn, etc per seat.

I felt like Eddie Murphy as Mr. White on the old SNL.

About 30 outside right now, but no snow.

My sadness over the loss of Wilson had almost healed, pansy!

Saw a trailer for RED during the Phila v. SF game tonight. I guess I'll see it when shows up on HBO or IFC or somewhere like that since i haven't been in a movie theater in about 10 years. If its anything like HELL RIDE it should be worth the wait!

I'm waiting for the release on Redbox, in the store, for a buck.

It's RED! At your local REDbox!!

Actually, that's one I'll spring for the box rental once (and nothing about Dame Helen subliminally, farmer- I swear),
but then I'll buy the first 4- disc DVD collector box set, if they offer the generic Kellogg's cereal box version, a Blu-Ray, whatever Blu-Ray beat out, and a disc to be printed later in a Blu-Ray replacement format.

pansypoo said...

ef technology. just say no to hollywood!

pjk said...

I thought it was say GoodBye to Hollywood.

Per capita movie spending in this household, be it in person, purchase or rental has me at the bottom- even if you figure in the Sopranos series and year 1 of Mad Men I got as gifts.

But I do like some of it. Maybe I'll hit the wife up for the entire series that Das Boot got edited down to. See where that might be available, honey!
