Rivertalk

I found the first photo above in a YNN (news) site slide show. It's a photo of Owego, NY's Riverwalk, located on the banks of the Susquehanna River in upstate NY. Owego is about 20 miles south of Ithaca, NY.

The lower photo (also found online) shows what the Riverwalk looks like when the river is behaving itself.

The last I checked the Susquehanna river at Owego was at 34.93 feet, expected to crest at 38.1 feet on Thursday afternoon. The historical crest is 35.9 feet recorded June 29, 2006.

I think it's going to go higher than 38.1
(noted: as of 2:30 am Thursday - Sept. 08, 2011).

I put one of those plastic picnic coolers in the back yard when it started raining and it filled it up to the top. its 12 inches deep. and for all i know some of the water spilled over the top.
