Happy Mother's Day (as opposed to angry mother's day, or crazy mother's day or...)

It's also the 66th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (Wikipedia):

[blockquote] May 8, 1945 (in Commonwealth countries; May 7,1945), the date when the World War II Allies formally accepted the unconditional surrender of the armed forces of Nazi Germany and the end of Adolf Hitler's Third Reich. [/blockquote]

i was just thinking about pound cake today (while hunting for morels - which i didn't find - which gave me more time to think about pound cake). but i saw a recipe in the NYTimes for whiskey cake, which is basically just a warm whiskey syrup glaze (butter sugar and whiskey) poured over a cake as soon as it comes out of the oven. let the cake cool then flip it over and douse it with confectioners sugar. and i thought it might make for a good glaze on pound cake - maybe with strawberries too. I don't have any rhubarb yet either. The photo is from last summer.

yeah. too early for rhubarb. but some how my grandma made a rhubarb pie for my march b-day.

i am thinking about making a blueberry sauce for the pound cake. plain is boring. better w/ sliced almonds on top. shoulda used roasted pecans tho. or maybe a coconut goo.

Doc S would die if I made Rhubarb pie and had the nerve to EXPECT him to eat it....

photo pie is strawberry/rhubarb. the strawberries can usually do the trick for anyone that won't go near the rhubarb alone. how is dr s. anyway? he hasn't come around these parts in a long time. neither of ya have.

picked a large amount of stalks yesterday. lots of seed pods to yank too. looks good.

plant the seeds. you can start em on a windowsill in cups or peat pots then transplant later. Or plant in the ground - but they like to be warm so i'd wait till at least june to do it.

pansy, I don't think thems anti-rhubarb comments as much as rhubarb combos.

Some things go good together. Not everyone likes it Straight Up.

I guess that makes you a purist.

Or an afficianado.

And a possible subscriber to Rhubarb or Death magazine.

So if someone says they prefer Death, the sentence is Death by Rhubarb!
