SBL bird feeder

Hey, it's another Flicker pic. But this one shows the yellow in the tail feathers and the red steer-like marking on the back of the head

And...

A female Red-bellied Woodpecker.

Love them woodpeckers.

What to do this weekend? Besides laundry and deciding on paying part of a 2-month utility bill, before #3 arrives?

Gotta watch the Packer game, probably grill something that's been dead an appropriate amount of time, perhaps even visit an auto shop and get the lowdown on getting an emissions waiver for the MOL Buick.

Wake up broke yet unhappy on Monday. That I can do.

Scout's Honor.

Packers, and Patriots to rid us of the frickin NY Jets weirdos.

And, speaking of grilling things that have been dead a little while, I've recently become addicted to watching old episodes of Weeds which are now rerun on the TV Guide channel.

I never saw the show before because it was a Showtime program but now the morons at TV Guide have hacked it up into random episodic chunks which they throw overboard for viewers each saturday night from about 9pm - 2am (and some weeknights too).

Be nice if some cable network that actually knew what they were doing would rerun all the shows on a real channel from beginning to end... but, well, most everything on TV is complete bottom feeding crap so I'll take whatever good stuff they fling out out there even if it is a scattered mess.

So far, we've got the Sopranos and the first 2 seasons of Mad Men in our posession, which is kind of a strange thing.

We started out watching the Sopranos until we lost our free HBO connection. That series took an extended road trip to friends and family.

Breaking Bad is worth watching, along with several others like Weeds, 6 ft. Under, Deadwood, etc.

We just need access to get hooked. But I'd sooner pay or borrow the commercial-free experience myself as wade through the bullshit of cable slice-and-dice.

NetFlix + a DVR would probably be worth it. But not for CSI!

i'm watching less teevee.

i just figured out that i can watch old episodes of Weeds for free using the "on demand" thing. I never bothered to see what that thing was all about. As far as I can tell most of the on demand channels are pay per view and some don't even have any selections at all and if they do the selections pretty much suck but in any event i can watch back seasons of Weeds. At least I think i can. I haven't actually tried it yet.

I usually watch Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Stewart/Colbert, the cable news yack shows, and so on, as well as some of the HBO programs. Except that HBO is for the most part a one night wonder and the rest of the week it just reruns it's Sunday night shows and the crappiest B movies they can find from the early 80s (which they show over and over and over again for months at a time). And i usually only want to do some drinking and watch a movie or something late at night after all the news yack shows and Stewart/Colbert are finished. Mostly there isn't much to see from midnight on. Occasionally something good on one of the classic movie channels but thats hit or miss most of the time. They did run a whole night of old Our Gang episodes about a week ago. That made me happy.

It works! But it starts in the middle of the seconds season of the show. The episode where the dog eats Andy's toes.

I want to see the Packers and the Steelers win this Sunday too, but then I'll conflicted re the Super Bowl. I'll probably change sides about ten times according to the flow of the game.

pansypoo said...

that would be a tradional game for sure.

the farmer said...

I'll just consider a Packers v. Steelers Sooper Bowl a win win whoever wins since I like both teams and whichever one wins is ok by me as long as the winner deserves to win. Like pansy said it would be a traditional game for sure. Its not like its the Packers or Steelers v. some fuckwit team like the Arizona Cardinals or Jacksonville Jaguars. Or even, worse, the Dallas Cowboys!

bears vs steelers ok too.

Bears vs. Steelers, pansy?

If I had Charles Foster Kane money, I'd equip everyone in the state with a t-shirt with a NFC? NFW! anti-Bear theme.

I'd also rather play the Jets, if no one minds if we beat them as well.

farmer- your tv viewing habits sound mighty similar to my own.

pansypoo said...

well, the bears are a old team. AND it's the middle NOT A FUCKING COAST.

the farmer said...

Sorry Pansy. Kansas City or St. Louis would be the middle. The Bears are on the fucking North Coast.

How about some football trivia: Who won the AFL championship in 1936?

Answer: The Boston Shamrocks with an 8-3-0 record. They beat the Cleveland Rams (5-2-2) and the New York Yankees (5-3-2) for the title. The Brooklyn Tigers finished in last place with 0-6-1 record.

OK, Next question: Who were the Red Grange/CC Pyle AFL teams of 1926?

Answer:
- NY Yankees
- Philadelphia Quakers
- Los Angeles Wildcats
- Chicago Bulls
- Cleveland Panthers
- Boston Bulldogs
- Rock Island Independents
-Brooklyn Horsemen
- Newark Bears

Back when men were men. With skulls so thick that a leather helmet was all ya needed to keep that walnut-sized brain safe.

Good deal at the Omni hotel in ChiTown this weekend; a 2-night stay at $179/night will get you the 2nd night free and a $50 food/beverage voucher "if" the Packers win.

And "if" the locals let you go back to the hotel. But we're all about civility these days, Right?

the farmer said...

If the locals get ugly just light a giant parmesan cheese wheel on fire and roll it into the crowd while yelling "eat blue mold you there polish sausage molesters!"

Back when men were men.

One thing i wondered about that 1926 AFL lineup was that all the teams were either midwest/great lakes or northeast teams. And one team from Los Angeles. How did they mangae that in 1926?
