Bob Somerby's bold new pants

Bob Somerby got hisself some prideful snazzy new pants. In case he gets invited to a dance at the grange hall. And so he can look and feel as self-confident as Rachel Maddow.

say who?
follow the linkies.

Bob Somerby (Daily Howler). Somewhere along the line he appointed himself some kind of supreme medium channeling the collective mind of a rube (thats what Bob calls them) nation of real murikans constantly under assault from entitled ingenues like Rachel Maddow. And only he, Bob the Howler, can understand this rube nation and their mysterious ways... or something. In any event, Bob fancies himself some kind of edgy everyman while simultaneously remaining a tedious pedantic condescending Harvard educated windbag with a bug up his ass especially when it comes to Maddow. Which results in incoherent gibberish like this crap here:

Frankly, Bob may be repetitious, and have some other negative qualities, however, I find his insights and criticisms of the modern liberal, and the overall political scene to be fairly accurate. Regarding Maddow, I don't watch her, or any other "pundit," but if his accounts of Maddow are any where near accurate (allowing for hyperbole), then I would agree with Bob's assessment and characterization of her. I have seen snippets of her during the initial Tea Party coverage, and I agree with Bob: castigating the other "tribe" with sexual innuendo ("teabaggers"), and other insults is not likely to win over the other side to your point of view. That is primarily what he is saying. If you choose to view his ravings as those of "a tedious pedantic condescending Harvard educated windbag with a bug up his ass," that is your prerogative, of course. For me, I think of Shakespeare's line "Methinks the lady doth protest too much."

In other words you are admitting you don't know what you - or, for that matter, Bob - are actually talking about (and apparently have no interest in finding out for yourself). So instead of finding out for yourself you just accept Bobs "accounts" on faith alone. Bob is your inerrant messiah and you accept without further investigation or question the Word of Bob? Praise Bob.

For me, I think of Shakespeare's line "Methinks the lady doth protest too much."

Even if I was a lady how would you know if I protest too much or not since you admit yourself that you don't have any first hand accounting of what the protesting is about. Methinks maybe you protest too much about things you don't know much about. Yadig?

Mrs Polly - so that's what that is. I wasn't exactly sure. I wasn't sure what "look at the rubes jump" was supposed to mean except perhaps to alert me to another one of Bobs jump-n-bawl sermons underway.

Howler-B be seriously stylin' is how I imagine the hippety-hop city kids - who need to STAY OFF MY DAMN LAWN - would say it.

The trousers, and the eyes - mein Gott, the eyes, ever-open, ever-piercing, always following me - compel me to agree with, um, whatever he said.

Farmer,
Your conclusion is erroneous and not accurate, and seems to be an emotional reaction to what I've said. I said I don't typically watch her show, as I don't watch any show of that sort. Frankly, they are for the most part windbags. I have viewed segments of her show, which several blogs put up, and I have read transcripts of her show. I read Somerby daily, and yes, I agree with much of what he says. However, to surrender to your emotions in reaction to what I wrote you show yourself to be somewhat rash in your judgments. To conclude that I believe Bob to be an "inerrant messiah," and that I "admit [my]self that [I] don't have any first hand accounting of what the protesting is about" seems to me to be somewhat puerile.
Your knee jerk reaction only serves to justify my quotation from Shakespeare. I am educated and highly intelligent, and it would seem that you may perhaps not understand what my Shakespeare quote means. "Jump and bawl sermons?" That seems to be what your anti Somerby post is. My B.S. is in Political Science, and I have been politically aware since I was a preteen, some 50 years ago.
I typically enjoy your blog, but you have now shown me that you may be an arrant knave.
By the way, Zadig is a character in Candide.

Really? It seemed to me to be a somewhat accurate accounting of what you wrote above all by your little self: Regarding Maddow, I don't watch her, or any other "pundit," but if his accounts of Maddow are any where near accurate...

Yadig? (meaning, you dig?).

Maddows point was pretty simple. That the Bush tax breaks set to expire are an opportunity for the Dems to explain why Repubs can't have it both ways when it comes for calling for defecit reductions and continuing tax breaks at the same time. Pretty simple, and her point was clear enough regardless of whether or not Bob Somerby, by way of some prickish convoluted argument, thinks it will upset the FOX Noise audience or not. And speaking of puerile, this is what Somerby wrote:

[snip] Why isn’t the tax cut issue a ginormous political gift? In part, because many millions of American voters don’t think the way Maddow does. The lady is so full of self-adoration that she rarely wastes her time understanding such facts of American life; she prefers to aim dick jokes at the unwashed, then to pretend that they just don’t exist.

[...]

She’s full of self-confidence—but she isn’t especially smart about politics. (Beyond that, she isn’t real honest.) Sadly, she’s making the liberal world dumber—as she stuffs those millions of dollars down her self-confident pants. [/snip]

Since you apparently fancy yourself an expert on the puerile maybe you can explain to me what Somerby means by "dick jokes" aimed at the unwashed even means - or what it has to do with anything Maddows was discussing. And while you're at it why don't you and your B.S degree wander over to Rumproast and learn the rubes over there as to what exactly "self-confident pants" are.

Jump and bawl sermons are what Billy Sunday used to deliver. Ya dig?
