this storm is starting to look more like Agnes all the time, except Agnes stalled out as a tropical storm over the NYC area so it rained and rained for a couple days.
just started raining. not too hard and not too windy yet. like a nice summer night shower so far. and just picked my first sweet corn yesterday afternoon and i hope that doesn't get swamped and blown over. so don't be hatin' on my sweet corn Irene!
no damage here. no trees down or flooding or anything like that. didn't even knock over my sunflowers. got a lot of rain but it wasn't a torential downpour. nothing like what they got along the hudson and up into vermont.
I was watching CNNs coverage of Prattsville NY. when i was outside on sunday a military helicopter flew over - very low, almost treetop level - problably national guard headed to the prattsville area which isn't too far from me. then i'd heard on tv that the gilboa dam had broken - which would be very bad. people have worried about the gilboa dam for years - and fortunately it wasn't true. but prattsville - which sits above the gilboa dam and resovoir (which supplies nyc with water) was devastated by all the water running down from the catskills. just like agnes 72. i still can't believe that none of the news media weather wankers made a connection between this storm and agnes 72. it baffles me.
oh sure. been jumping out of the way of covered bridges and runaway sugar house stills for the last few days. Getting ready for that storm in the Gulf to fling some pelicans up this way later in the week.

how much rain do you need?
not that much.

well, hope only stupid surfers + conservatives are in danger.
I remember Agnes. We went to Wilkes-Barre to help out a cousin and his wife who were wiped out when a river dam caved in.
I was in DC at the time and remember the water being up almost over the lincoln memorial bridge.
